Albert Darnell started Darnells plumbing and heating in 1947. Travelling from job to job on his push bike with a bag of tools, he soon established himself a reputation for quality work, honesty and conscientiousness. Three qualities which remain at the heart of Darnells Ltd to this very day.
Albert and his wife had two sons and a daughter, his youngest son, John, was keen to follow in his father's footsteps in the plumbing and heating industry. He trained to become a heating engineer, taking over the business in 1980, when Albert retired.

In 1983 John Darnell built new offices and a workshop for the thriving company in Osney Mead, Oxford.
John and his wife had four sons. Continuing family tradition, Austen Darnell left school to work for his father, the company now expanding into the commercial sector, working for many of the Oxford Universities.
The company continues as a family run business with Austen Darnell and Dave Messenger at the helm. In 2001, Darnell's continuing expansion made it necessary to move again to new offices in Eynsham (see Oxford Mail link). The scope of work Darnell's now offer has grown beyond any recognition from Albert Darnell's early days. We are sure Albert would be proud that his name is now synonymous with mechanical services in Oxford and the surrounding area.

Austen started work at Darnells as an apprentice fitter, attending Reading College of Further Education. Upon completing his apprenticeship, he continued his education in building services, at Bath University. Austen is now an associate member of CIBSE.
Austen is married and has two daughters. Outside work, Austen can regularly be found playing pool in the Witney and District Pool League. Austen is also a black belt in both Judo and Taekwando and is often seen refereeing local competitions.

Dave started work at Sharp and Howse as an apprentice building services engineer, attending Bath University. He joined Darnells Ltd in 1995.
Dave has a partner and a son. Outside work Dave plays pool in the Witney and District Pool League. Dave is also a keen amateur motor racing driver, racing his classic and modern Alfa Romeos around the country's motor racing circuits for Team Darnells Racing.
